Vacations take our senses to a whole new level.

We see with new eyes as we explore buildings, art, and landscape.

We hear sounds we haven’t heard before with language, music, and wildlife.

We smell an unfamiliar humanity, and touch new textures, fabric, and earth.

And then…we taste.

Elevations Dining

Situated in Radium Hot Springs, Elevations Dining at the Springs Course is a must-eat destination. This season’s favourites included the Heirloom Tomato Salad (soft goat cheese, artisan greens, truffle balsamic vinaigrette), Curried Chickpea Burger (hummus, tomato, onion, avocado, lettuce), and Tagliarini Pasta (wild mushroom cream, jumbo prawns, white truffle oil).

Coming this spring, is chef’s new menu, reflecting a refined, yet casual approach. Guests can expect Thursday pasta nights, Friday artist performances, BBQ Saturdays, Sunday Brunch, and daily cocktail hour. Now add the best patio in the Columbia Valley with panoramic views of the Springs Golf Course, the majestic Columbia River, and Purcell Mountains. Elevations Dining is open daily from April to mid-October.

Conuma Grill

Located in the land where wilderness meets luxury.  Dine oceanside at Nootka Marine Adventures‘ Conuma Grill and enjoy the freshest products from around Vancouver Island as well as the sister company, Seaview Game Farm.  Naturally, locally-sourced seafood and fish are on the menu. This past season’s entrées included items such as Ling Cod Fish and Chips, Tuna Tataki, and golden calamari.

There are no words to describe the tranquility and magic at Moutcha Bay Resort. The area is not close to any urban centers, allowing for reduced traffic and, therefore, a pristine setting with incredible ocean views and sweet mountain air.

Moutcha Bay Resort offers many different types of lodging, the luxury yurts include beautifully appointed rooms with full kitchens, spacious patios, and, you guessed it, those calming ocean views. If you choose to go fishing, you can even cook up your own catch-of-the-day! Conuma Grill is open from June to September.

Morgan’s Bistro

Located in Harrison Hot Springs, Morgan’s Bistro provides an upscale farm-to-plate culinary excursion. So many dishes to recommend, ranging from farm-fresh salads, seafood, short ribs, tenderloin, traditional spaghetti & meatballs, and an impressive cocktail list. It’s West Coast fare at its best. After a full day of exploring Harrison’s forest and lake, think of Morgan’s Bistro as your après ‘day on the land and water’.

Conveniently located within the Harrison Beach Hotel in the centre of Harrison Village, Morgan’s Bistro overlooks the aqua-marine waters of Harrison Lake providing uniquely different, yet complementary, indoor and outdoor dining experiences. Morgan’s Bistro is open year-round.

We invite you to taste the True Key difference.

Old Man Winter is on his way! Chilly temperatures and longer nights…yes, the advent of winter is here. While some embrace the cozy feels of being indoors, toes warming by the fireplace and a glass of wine in hand, we know it’s unbearable for some as they scroll through ‘summer throwback’ images waiting for the sun to return.

We have solutions to your woes!

Embrace the Season at Bighorn Meadows Resort!

Bighorn is located in the heart of the Kootenays, which is pure winter magic. The mountains are decorated with the softest and lightest powdered snow, the trees often crystallized like images out of a storybook. Frozen lakes invite residents and guests to grab their ice skates and experience Canadiana at its finest. True to the stereotype, you’ll see everyone in toques, mittens, and their favourite parkas and plaid jackets. The Kootenays celebrates winter.

Specific to the area, Bighorn is located in Radium Hot Springs, known for après-winter adventure hot springs soaks, its central location, and stunning views of the Rocky Mountains and Purcell Mountain range. Wrapped in your favourite fuzzies on your private patio, a cup of coffee or tea never tasted so good. When you step out of your front door, you can start cross-country skiing right away with the resort situated on Springs Golf Course. Within a 30 to 60-minute drive, choose from seven renowned resorts to snowmobile, ski, or snowshoe. Bighorn’s amenities include a heated outdoor pool, two hot tubs, and fitness room.

Or, you can head to Harrison Hot Springs in the Fraser Valley for a Harrison Beach Hotel retreat.

While not as cold as the Kootenays, Harrison’s picture-perfect landscape is still known for its frosty setting. Whether it’s summer or winter, Harrison Lake is beautiful and brings peaceful lakeshore walks. Located only 90 minutes from Vancouver, it’s an easy drive that has guests feeling like they are farther away. Whether you’re looking to soak in the mineral-rich hot springs, venture into town, or, simply, taking a step back to be one with nature, you can find it all in Harrison.  New this year is Harrison’s Lights on the Lake Light Festival from November 24th to January 28th. Unlike other festivals, Lights on the Lake is a Sasquatch-themed light display, sharing Harrison’s favourite ways to spend time outdoors. Watch for Sasquatch hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, fishing, camping, and windsurfing. Illuminated streets, painted storefront windows, and Christmas trees lining the plaza will have everyone loving the Christmas feels. Harrison Beach’s cozy suites and spacious lake-view patios is the perfect complement.

If Milder Temperatures Continue to Call You, Head to Vancouver Island.

Rumour has it that Vancouver Island is challenged with a lack of winter sunshine. While the west coast gets its fair share of overcast weather, long stretches of blue skies are common. Another myth is that there is nothing to do. Definitely not true. Quaint shops and cafés are found in most communities and a drive up to Mount Washington brings you to a sunny, winter wonderland–perfect for sledding, skiing or snowboarding. Some of the best surfing is in the winter, given the stronger swells and wind-borne waves. Now add that many golf courses are open year-round.

Located only two hours apart, a few days at each resort makes for a relaxing escape. Sooke is known for its lush rainforest, whale-watching, fishing, and multitude of beaches. It’s a calendar image of BC’s rugged west coast. And,  Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina has all the amenities of home, with touches of luxury. Choose from a 2-bedroom unit to a penthouse suite, complete with full kitchens, laundry, fireplaces, and outdoor hot tubs. You can even bring your pooch!

Also, located in Sooke is SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort. This oceanside Resort offers premium luxury suites with an unrivaled oceanic vacation experience, an ideal home base for any traveler. Each beautifully fully furnished studio, 1, 2, or 2+den bedroom suite offers breathtaking and undisturbed ocean views.

In Parksville, Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort is all about the ocean. A short jaunt from Vancouver to Nanaimo and then Parksville, your family will have the best time. A must-see is making your way to Coombs Village. Shop for local meats, cheeses, bakery items, artwork, home & garden décor, and other artisan goods. From the resort grounds, or right from your private patio, enjoy being surrounded by the quietness of nature and watch abundant wildlife–seals, sea lions, and over 250 different species of birds including loons and bald eagles. This is island living at its best.

Your next getaway isn’t just memorable, it’s affordable! Choose from several packages and deals.  Contact us today and a True Key representative will help you plan your next visit!

Travelling for a conference or business meeting is very exciting but it comes with some related stress as well. Here are our top tips to make the most of your upcoming business trip:

  1. Avoid stress by planning ahead. We would recommend this for any trip but it is specifically important for a business trip. Make sure to know where you are staying and try to book all of your meetings as close to the area as possible. This way you are not wasting time getting caught in traffic or getting lost in a new city.
  2. Having meeting after meeting is exhausting and that leads many of us to spend the whole trip watching TV in a hotel room. Don’t do this! You can watch TV anytime but you’re only in this new place for so long, try to enjoy it. Use the facilities at your hotel; it’s what they’re for after all. Soak your stress away in the hot tub, work it out in the fitness centre or take a walk on the beach. These simple things will lift your spirits and make you feel involved in the city and leave you ready for the next day.
  3. One of the best parts of travel (in our opinion) is getting to experience new foods. Do not go to the same chain restaurants that you tend to at home, try something new! Ask the front-desk staff at your resort for recommendations on where to eat and you will often be surprised by the amazing places that you never would have tried before. Eating locally helps support the local economy and gives you great food; it’s a win-win!
  4. Extend your stay, if at all possible. So your conference is Wednesday to Friday? Perfect! Extend it to fly home on Monday instead. Just those two extra days to explore will make all of the difference, you will be able to really see the city you are in and appreciate it. You would be surprised how two days can change your entire trip. Take the weekend that you would normally spend lounging on the couch at home and turn it into a memorable trip.
  5. UNPACK! We know, if you’re only there for two days or so unpacking does seem a bit redundant, but it will make you feel a lot more comfortable. Hanging up your clothes as soon as you can will save you time trying to iron them and will make you feel more at home. Unpacking will also save you time rummaging through your suitcase. If you unpack you will be able to grab what you need and head out the door quickly.

Business trips are an important way to network and improve your business but they can also be a great way to experience new cities. Since you’re going to be there anyways, why not make it into a memorable trip? Business trips can be a lot of fun; as with most things, a business trip is only as good as you make it. Do you have any tips that we’ve missed? Let us know in the comments below!

It’s headbanging at its best this fall in Radium Hot Springs. No, we aren’t referring to  the good ol’ ‘80s so don’t go grabbing your neon faves, acid-wash jeans, and boom box just yet. This headbanging is about Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep in full rutting action!

When the males compete for the female’s attention, it gets rowdy around here as they, literally, starting locking horns and butting heads. The phenomenon is so iconic that a festival celebrates it from Friday, November 2 to Sunday, November 4th, 2018. It’s an annual opportunity to learn about these four-footed neighbours and to participate in interactive and educational workshops.

Don’t worry if you can’t make The Headbanger Festival because the action is in full force until early December.

Headbanging and Festival Highlights:

  • The festival will not only give you the opportunity to witness our horned friends go at it, but you’ll also get a chance to learn all about them from a lineup of knowledgeable presenters. You can step up your ‘snap and selfie mode’ with a smartphone photography workshop, led by Dax Justin, a Canadian explorer and professional outdoor adventure photographer.
  • Murder Mystery is brewing at the Horsethief Creek Pub & Eatery, which gets transformed into The Shootout Saloon during the festival. Pick your night and get your tickets because they sell out fast!.
  • Sunday morning, forest educator and children’s book author, Darcee O’Hearn, will present a workshop on Legends of the Forest and interpretive hikes.
  • The rut is a bucket-list item to watch. When the rams compete for the ewes by challenging one other, they charge at more than 20 km an hour! The cracking noises are often heard up to a mile away!
  • Bighorn Sheep are one of Radium’s prime attractions. Their daily presence and beauty are deeply respected by locals and visitors alike.

A family-friendly event, the Headbanger Festival will leave your children with lasting memories. Add a stop to Radium Hot Springs pool and overnight stay at Bighorn Resort where you’ll be close to all of these events.  For more information, visit us at bighornmeadows.com

I have been reaping the benefits of winning True Key Hotels & Resort’s #Canada150 photo contest. In September my husband and I enjoyed a 2-night stay at Moutcha Bay Resort, located in the Nootka Sound area of the western reaches of mid-Vancouver Island. Somewhat remote and a haven for all types of vacationers, perhaps especially outdoor and fishing enthusiasts, the accommodation is luxurious rather than rustic. Our 2-bedroom/fully equipped kitchen lodge suite provided spacious, stylish, well equipped and comfortable accommodation for us and our travelling companions. And the views were superb from both levels of the suite and from the adjacent deck. Moutcha Bay Resort also offers beautifully appointed accommodation in chalets and yurts, as well as scenic recreational/camping sites – amenities to put on the list for return visits!

The Moutcha Bay Resort staff were unfailingly welcoming, helpful and informative. We treated ourselves to dinner on the patio of the Conuma Grill on the first night of our stay. We were so impressed by the presentation and quality of the food that we returned for a repeat performance the following evening.

It is not likely possible to ‘say enough’ about the magnificent scenery of Moutcha Bay Resort. The setting is as perfect for those seeking relaxation as it is for folks with more adventurous spirits. The smooth water sparkled as we explored the waters of Moutcha Bay during an afternoon of kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. We let our ‘inner children’ out to play as well, as we tried out the zipline in the children’s playground! We observed fisherman (in small craft and in larger fishing boats) returning with generous catches. The fleet of Nootka Marine Adventures boats and the full-service marina is impressive!

A significant part of travelling to a destination is enjoying the journey. I have visited many parts of Vancouver Island, but this trip was my first opportunity to see the territory that we encountered as we drove toward Moutcha Bay Resort. Amongst the ‘attractions’ we encountered and explored enroute to and in the vicinity of Moutcha Bay Resort: Elk Falls Provincial Park and its waterfall and suspension bridge, schools of fish lazing in the rivers, Strathcona Park, wilderness, wildlife and forests aplenty, the town of Gold River, the Upana Caves, Lady Falls, The ‘President’s Tree’ (a vintage Douglas Fir!) and the fishing village of Tahsis.

We had a wonderful vacation at the Moutcha Bay Resort, through True Key Hotels & Resorts! Thank you!

September marks the end of summer and demands routines and tight schedules again. It’s one crazy, busy month. We know that it’s no easy task to just pack up and jet off to a week-long holiday, especially when we are just getting back on track, which is why a short staycation is the perfect solution…A restful mini getaway will have you going strong for the next few months.

True Key Hotels & Resorts has a handful of gorgeous resorts with something for everyone.  Take your pick from soothing lakeshore walks to panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains.

Bighorn Meadows Resort

Located in Radium Hot Springs, Big-horn got its name due to the abundant number of big-horn animals that roam the area. From sheep to goats, it’s wildlife viewing at its finest.  As we approach winter, these magnificent animals start to congregate in larger numbers and ‘headbang’. The rutting action has become so popular that an entire festival was created for it! It’s become iconic and you can witness the phenomenon right at our resort.

Or soak in the fresh air and escape to one of our surrounding ski hills, skating areas, snowmobile trails, and hiking trails. Whatever excursion you choose, you can bank on a cozy fall evening, complete with a hot cup of cocoa and the warmth of the fireplace toasting your toes. Only a 3-hour drive from Calgary and 2 to 2.5  hours from Vancouver (1 to 1.5 hour flight and 1 hr drive from Cranbrook)

BONUS! Right now you can stay for 2+ nights and receive 25% off* from October 14 to January 31, 2019. Use Promo Code: FALL2018

Harrison Beach Hotel
Harrison Lake is beautiful any time of year. While spring and summer highlight the glacier-fed aquamarine waters, fall and winter invite a more mystical quality as the fog gently hovers over the shore.  Only an hour and a half from Vancouver, and within 40 minutes from neighbouring Fraser Valley destinations, Harrison has been a choice destination for years. It’s about slowing down and enjoying the ‘hike, bike, and paddle’ experiences with forest hiking trails, countryside biking, and scenic kayaking. In fact, the salmon run starts soon, inviting tens of thousands of bald eagles. And, the hot springs will have you recharging in healing goodness. Choose a lakefront room, grab your favourite book, and soak it all in.

SPECIAL OFFER! Take 70% OFF your 2nd Night! *Sunday to Thursday, Oct 1 to Jan 31, 2019. Make sure to use Promo Code: FALL2018

Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina
5-star fishing, golfing, wildlife and whale-watching tours, kayaking, beachcombing, and year-round hiking are at the core of a Sooke stay.  Diverse natural appeal surrounds Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina. The community has small-town charm, and friendly breweries and eateries. It’s a place ‘where everyone knows your name’.  Even as a tourist, locals love to have conversation and, by the end of the night, you’ll be leaving with a handful of new friends’ phone numbers and following them on social.

In the fall, the salmon return to Sooke Basin from their 4 to 5 year ocean journey, spawning in local streams. Just like in Harrison, the eagles come to feast on the salmon. You’ll see thousands of migratory birds, such as eagles and heron.

Hop on a 1.5 hr ferry ride from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and then drive just a quick 45-minute drive to Sooke.

Special Offer: Get 40% OFF 2 nights or more* through October 14 to January 31, 2019.

SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort

Some fifty million plus years ago, molten lava flowed south into the Salish Sea, forming a solid rock peninsula that, today, we call SookePoint. The ocean garden attracts an abundance of salmon and magnificent marine mammals.

Sookepoint Ocean Cottage Resort is perched right on this spot, offering stunning cliffside panaromic views of the ocean.  In fact, only 16 ft away! The luxurious Yacht Suites and 1 and 2-bedroom cottages  are fully equipped units with kitchens, deep-soaker tubs, nautical prow-shaped decks, and floor to ceiling windows.

We’re talking about a 5-star experience at cost-effective prices! Be sure to grab your groceries the moment you arrive in Sooke because the moment you open the doors at SookePoint, we guarantee that you won’t be leaving anytime soon.  Take a peek!

Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort
You’ll definitely feel ‘parked’ in Parksville with it being Vancouver Island chilling at its best. This is a renowned destination for families and zoomers (baby boomers that love to zoom!) Long, endless walks where nobody is checking the time, birdwatching, and beachcombing for sand dollars will occupy your days. A fall ocean boat ride or fishing trip is always available and hot spots like Coombs Village add a bit of buzz. Or stay in your housecoat and enjoy the amenities on site at Sunrise Ridge. Your hardest choice will be to choose the hot tub or stay in suite and enjoy the ocean views.  Just 25-minute flight from Vancouver to Nanaimo and then a 15-20-minute drive to Parksville.

“And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.” – Oscar Wilde

Goodbye summer skies and hello pumpkin spiced lattés and comfy sweaters. While summer is quickly ending and schedules will soon dictate our lives again–don’t fret! A quick staycation will strengthen you for the busyness to come. Parksville is a wonderful vacation spot, bringing crisp, sunny autumn mornings and healing Island adventure.  Slower days means ‘chill time’ and soul-soothing goodness. And, we know just where you should stay…the luxurious accommodations at Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort.

Here is our Top 5 List of things to do and see during your stay!

  1. Paddleboard and Bike RentalsGuests can choose to paddle board or mountain bike. Concierge has it set up for guests to easily ‘grab and go’ their fave gear. Water or land, Sunrise Ridge has you covered!
  2. Soak Away Your WorriesWith a large seasonal outdoor pool, open from May 1st to October 31st, frolic and splash the day away. Needing to warm up on those cooler days? Jump into the outdoor hot tub, which is open year-round. Feeling the cold, fresh air while bathing in a steaming, hot tub is one of fall’s best pleasures.
  3. HikingOne of the most awesome parts of being in Parksville are the hikes. The number of trails to explore, and natural wonders to see, is near-endless. You could spend days connecting from one trail to another. Come prepared and bring lots of water, supportive footwear, and high-energy snacks. Take a peek at our suggestions
  4. Coombs Village – When you hear Coombs, what is the first image that usually comes to mind? “The Goats on the Roof”! The original owners emigrated from Norway, where green sod roofs are common, and decided to add one to the market building. Legend has it that after a few glasses of wine, it was decided that goats should be added to help mow down the growing grass.  The goats became permanent tenants and, today, Coombs Old Country Market has become one of BC’s top tourist destinations. The eclectic village has mini golf, restaurants, and boutique shops with unique finds!
  5. Beaches Galore – Sunrise Ridge is located right in the heart of Canada’s Riviera and on a soft-sand beach, spanning 19 kms wide. It’s a mecca for rest and relaxation. Source artisan foods from local farms and shops and head down to Qualicum Beach for an al fresco bite. Inhale the salt-tinged air and be mesmerized by the picture-postcard views. If you bring the kids, they’ll be too busy finding sand dollars and catching sea crabs to take away from your down-time.  Quick tip! Be sure to check the Tide Chart

They call Parksville a vacationer’s paradise for good reason with its surrounding beaches, lakes, rivers, mountains and small-town charm. But don’t take our word for it…come check it out for yourself!  To learn more or book your stay, contact us today.

Sooke is the land of fishing, wildlife-viewing, white sandy beaches, wine stops, whale watching, surfing, and hiking. Tucked away at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, roughly an hour from Victoria, Sooke is a relaxed west coast community.

Sooke is known as the place “where the rainforest meets the sea.” With an abundance of things to do and sights to see we have created a list of our favourite six activities.

  1. Fishing– The waters just off Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina and SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort are known for being abundant with halibut, salmon, cod, and crab. Step right out of your bedroom door and into a boat, whisking you away on your next adventure. Fishing Charters make for a fun family or friends outing and are a great experience any time of year. Be sure to keep your eyes on the water, marine life watching is one of the locals’ favourite past times.
  2. Harbour Tours – A two-hour evening tour around Sooke Harbour… it’s a ‘watch and listen’ experience as guests will hear about the First Nations’ history, local aquaculture, the salmon story, and the historical role Sooke Basin played in the logging industry. While we can’t guarantee exactly which animals will make an appearance, expect to see birds, seals, sea lions and, occasionally, whales! Your experienced guide will bring you to all of the best spots. Bring your camera! You’ll want to snap moment after moment!
  3. Sooke Pothole Provincial Park– A hidden treasure tucked along the Sooke River, Sooke Pothole Provincial Park is home to a series of deep, polished rock pools and potholes that have been naturally embedded. This is a prime spot amongst locals and tourists and a go-to area for bridge-jumping, swimming, hiking, and picnicking.  Instagrammable moments are everywhere!
  4. Zipline – Get ready to soar through the sky at up to 60 km/hr! Those endorphins will have you flying high as you soar 150 ft up in the air with Adrena LINE Zipline Adventure Tours—Vancouver Island’s only canopy zipline tour. As you soar through the eight ziplines you will learn about Sooke’s ecology and wildlife.
  5. Beaches – Bury your toes and catch the waves in a coastline of beaches. For an easy accessible, family- friendly spot head to Whiffen Spit located in the Juan de Fuca Basin. Or trek out to the more unknown areas and experience Botanical Beach’s shoreline trails with red, purple, and orange starfish, urchins and sea cucumbers. Explore China Beach’s waterfall and delicate vegetation, or trek through Mystic Beach’s 2-km rugged walking trail.
  6. Wine Tour – Stop by Tugwell Creek Honey Farm & Meadery for a bee-to-bottle guided or self-guided tour. Tugwell is serious about bees, specialty honeys, and honey wine (mead), which happens to be the world’s first fermented beverage.  It’s an ancient libation and we truly think it’s one of the best beverages available on the island!

After all of your adventuring you will need a place to kick back and relax, choose from any of our spacious accommodation options at Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina and SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort and enjoy an amazing Sooke getaway. Reserve your stay today!

Bighorn Meadows Resort is a stunning property located on the Springs Golf Course in the heart of Radium Hot Springs. In Radium you will find incredible views, great golf courses, delicious dining options and some unique experiences.

Right at the resort you have a great view of the golf course and Radium Hot Springs is located within the Columbia Valley so you are surrounded by mountain views. No matter where you go in Radium, you will see the Rocky Mountains. If you venture further into the mountains you will be amazed. With tons of hiking trails in the area, there is guaranteed to be a hike suitable for any skill level. Take a short drive to Olive Lake, named for the bright colour of the water, and walk the loop. It is fully accessible and only takes about 15 minutes to complete. Although it is short, it still shows a great view of this uniquely coloured water.

There are two golf courses located right in Radium: the Springs Course and the Radium Course. There nine golf courses located within a half an hour drive of the resort. Each golf course offers something unique, making Radium the perfect destination for your golf getaway. Whether you are an experienced golfer or a first-timer you will enjoy the golf scene in the Columbia Valley. To make it even easier, Bighorn Meadows Resort offers a stay and play golf package, and their guest services agents will even book your tee times for you so all you have to do is show up!

Bighorn Meadows Resort offers suites with full kitchens; but if you’d rather eat out there are many options in Radium. Elevations Dining at the Springs Course (open during the golf season) is minutes from the resort and offers delicious meals. It is recommended to sit on the patio and enjoy the view and your meal. If you venture onto Main Street Radium you will find great dining options including pizza, traditional Austrian, Mexican or American diner food.

Radium Hot Springs is nothing if not unique; this Village of 800 people is known for experiences that can only be found in Radium. The Home of a Thousand Faces is a landmark visible along highway 93; it was featured on TV’s Weird Homes. Rolf Heer is a local wood carver who gives tours of his home; his wood carvings are truly beautiful. This tour is full of fun surprises: there are goats and souvenirs and lots more but I’m not telling you the secret. Radium is known for the Hot Springs, the Hot Springs Pools are open to the public for only $8. There is a hot pool which is heated by the naturally mineral-rich water and a cold pool for you to cool off. The hot pools are thought to have healing powers.
