Sooke is the land of fishing, wildlife-viewing, white sandy beaches, wine stops, whale watching, surfing, and hiking. Tucked away at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, roughly an hour from Victoria, Sooke is a relaxed west coast community.

Sooke is known as the place “where the rainforest meets the sea.” With an abundance of things to do and sights to see we have created a list of our favourite six activities.

  1. Fishing– The waters just off Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina and SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort are known for being abundant with halibut, salmon, cod, and crab. Step right out of your bedroom door and into a boat, whisking you away on your next adventure. Fishing Charters make for a fun family or friends outing and are a great experience any time of year. Be sure to keep your eyes on the water, marine life watching is one of the locals’ favourite past times.
  2. Harbour Tours – A two-hour evening tour around Sooke Harbour… it’s a ‘watch and listen’ experience as guests will hear about the First Nations’ history, local aquaculture, the salmon story, and the historical role Sooke Basin played in the logging industry. While we can’t guarantee exactly which animals will make an appearance, expect to see birds, seals, sea lions and, occasionally, whales! Your experienced guide will bring you to all of the best spots. Bring your camera! You’ll want to snap moment after moment!
  3. Sooke Pothole Provincial Park– A hidden treasure tucked along the Sooke River, Sooke Pothole Provincial Park is home to a series of deep, polished rock pools and potholes that have been naturally embedded. This is a prime spot amongst locals and tourists and a go-to area for bridge-jumping, swimming, hiking, and picnicking.  Instagrammable moments are everywhere!
  4. Zipline – Get ready to soar through the sky at up to 60 km/hr! Those endorphins will have you flying high as you soar 150 ft up in the air with Adrena LINE Zipline Adventure Tours—Vancouver Island’s only canopy zipline tour. As you soar through the eight ziplines you will learn about Sooke’s ecology and wildlife.
  5. Beaches – Bury your toes and catch the waves in a coastline of beaches. For an easy accessible, family- friendly spot head to Whiffen Spit located in the Juan de Fuca Basin. Or trek out to the more unknown areas and experience Botanical Beach’s shoreline trails with red, purple, and orange starfish, urchins and sea cucumbers. Explore China Beach’s waterfall and delicate vegetation, or trek through Mystic Beach’s 2-km rugged walking trail.
  6. Wine Tour – Stop by Tugwell Creek Honey Farm & Meadery for a bee-to-bottle guided or self-guided tour. Tugwell is serious about bees, specialty honeys, and honey wine (mead), which happens to be the world’s first fermented beverage.  It’s an ancient libation and we truly think it’s one of the best beverages available on the island!

After all of your adventuring you will need a place to kick back and relax, choose from any of our spacious accommodation options at Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina and SookePoint Ocean Cottage Resort and enjoy an amazing Sooke getaway. Reserve your stay today!

Bighorn Meadows Resort is a stunning property located on the Springs Golf Course in the heart of Radium Hot Springs. In Radium you will find incredible views, great golf courses, delicious dining options and some unique experiences.

Right at the resort you have a great view of the golf course and Radium Hot Springs is located within the Columbia Valley so you are surrounded by mountain views. No matter where you go in Radium, you will see the Rocky Mountains. If you venture further into the mountains you will be amazed. With tons of hiking trails in the area, there is guaranteed to be a hike suitable for any skill level. Take a short drive to Olive Lake, named for the bright colour of the water, and walk the loop. It is fully accessible and only takes about 15 minutes to complete. Although it is short, it still shows a great view of this uniquely coloured water.

There are two golf courses located right in Radium: the Springs Course and the Radium Course. There nine golf courses located within a half an hour drive of the resort. Each golf course offers something unique, making Radium the perfect destination for your golf getaway. Whether you are an experienced golfer or a first-timer you will enjoy the golf scene in the Columbia Valley. To make it even easier, Bighorn Meadows Resort offers a stay and play golf package, and their guest services agents will even book your tee times for you so all you have to do is show up!

Bighorn Meadows Resort offers suites with full kitchens; but if you’d rather eat out there are many options in Radium. Elevations Dining at the Springs Course (open during the golf season) is minutes from the resort and offers delicious meals. It is recommended to sit on the patio and enjoy the view and your meal. If you venture onto Main Street Radium you will find great dining options including pizza, traditional Austrian, Mexican or American diner food.

Radium Hot Springs is nothing if not unique; this Village of 800 people is known for experiences that can only be found in Radium. The Home of a Thousand Faces is a landmark visible along highway 93; it was featured on TV’s Weird Homes. Rolf Heer is a local wood carver who gives tours of his home; his wood carvings are truly beautiful. This tour is full of fun surprises: there are goats and souvenirs and lots more but I’m not telling you the secret. Radium is known for the Hot Springs, the Hot Springs Pools are open to the public for only $8. There is a hot pool which is heated by the naturally mineral-rich water and a cold pool for you to cool off. The hot pools are thought to have healing powers.

At True Key Hotels & Resorts we are proud to manage such a great resort that is located in such a beautiful village. Reserve your stay at Bighorn Meadows Resort now and let us take care of everything!

True Key is proud to manage the Harrison Beach Hotel, a gorgeous hotel located in the heart of Harrison Hot Springs. There are so many things we could brag about at Harrison Beach Hotel from its incredible location to its excellent amenities. Well the list goes on and on, we will keep it short and focus on its incredible meeting and venue space (perfect for an intimate wedding), and of course its proximity to the natural Harrison Hot Springs.

Harrison Beach Hotel is the perfect venue for your wedding, we can accommodate up to 50 guests comfortably in our luxury reception room which overlooks the lake. Our team at the Harrison Beach Hotel is able to help with everything from seating plans to audio and visual equipment. Although we do not offer a full-service wedding planning package, we are always happy to connect you with local wedding suppliers. Your wedding should be the happiest day of your life, let us help you make your dream a reality.

It is important to keep your fitness routine on track, even when on vacation, that is why the hotel offers a fitness centre for all guests. This centre features a treadmill, bike, elliptical and television. It is open daily from 8am to 11pm, whether you’re an early riser or a night owl you will find a time in your schedule to work up a sweat. We also have an indoor pool for guests to cool off and an outdoor hot tub to relax in and let your muscles soak after your workout. Another great way to keep your fitness routine on track while on vacation is to go for a run on the beach; you may not even realize how much you’ve been running because the scenery is so beautiful. Harrison is home to many hikes; from easy to advanced there is a hike perfect for you.

The natural hot springs are what Harrison is best known for; luckily for us we are in a great location to visit these natural wonders. The Hot Springs were discovered by the Salish Coast Natives who called them ‘the healing place’ because the hot water and minerals have healing effects on the body. Harrison Hot Springs public pools are said to bring relief to sufferers of rheumatism and arthritis through the 8 minerals present in the water. The pool is set to 38 degrees Celsius, not too cold but not too hot to enjoy. Always be aware before entering a hot pool as prolonged exposure to the heat can be damaging for children, pregnant women and seniors.

There are many more reasons why the Harrison Beach Hotel is the perfect location for your vacation but we will keep it simple. True Key Hotels & Resorts is proud to manage such a wonderful property in Harrison Hot Springs. For more information or to reserve your stay click here.

Explore the Columbia Valley

Stop your search for summer adventure because we have got you covered!

Including the Columbia Valley’s — scenic rounds of golf, thrilling ATV rides, horseback riding, whitewater rafting …and that’s just the beginning.

Here is our TOP 6 LIST of activities that are bound to get your adrenaline pumping!

ATV Tours

Go off-road at Toby Creek! With Toby Creek Adventures you’re able to choose from a selection of full and half-day tours, geared towards discovering backcountry waterfalls, pristine scenery, and abundant wildlife in its natural habitat. An adventure not to be missed! We guarantee tours for all ages and skill levels.

Radium Zipline Adventures

Get ready to zip through the air! No fear here as zipline adventuring is a safe and easy activity for the entire family, or a group of friends, to experience! With Valley Zipline Adventures you’ll be soaring sky-high on this seven Zipline Canopy Tour, down the hillside, towards the Valley floor, all while encountering stunning, panoramic views. It’s truly picture-perfect! Open seven days a week, this new attraction is a must-see. Add it to your summer bucket list!

Whitewater Rafting

Whitewater rafting is simply…awesome. You’re soaring down a gushing river as you navigate through the rapids, breathing crisp mountain air while immersed in BC’s rainforest. A memorable moment? Without question. You’ll be leaving on a high that will carry you for weeks! An absolute favourite is the Kicking Horse River tour. Whether you’re a seasoned rafter or a first-timer – it’s a new experience every time. Tours accommodate 5 years and older.

Horseback Riding

Ride your own way through beautiful bench lands and the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Once you saddle up, within minutes, you’ll be transported to a simpler place in time with the wind in your hair and nothing but serenity to be felt. ‘Easy does it’ is the theme for guided trail rides ranging to full day excursions through the Purcell Mountains and meandering creeks. Combine rafting and riding, and you can even experience the Saddle and Paddle!

Biking & Climbing

Can you tell that ‘off road’ is a reoccurring theme here? Visualize starting with a view of the alpine launch, situated between three mountain ranges, and then ripping down the mountain. The Columbia Valley boasts lots of good single-track, challenging terrain, and naturally-made jumps. Many mountain bikers think of the Kootenays as their alpine playground.

Or head up by exploring vertical climbs to the cliffs or suspension bridges.  The Kootenays is a climber’s paradise, showing people from all walks of life some of the world’s most beautiful climbing spots.

Kayak & Canoe

Paddling down the Columbia River has been deemed a spiritual experience by some. You’ll venture into the protected wetlands, learn about the history of the area, and hear wildlife stories about the animals indigenous to the area.  Or paddle north past Revelstoke, BC before turning south and eventually flowing out into the Pacific Ocean in Oregon, USA! Self-guided or guided trips area are available.

Located on Main Street in Radium Hot Springs, True Key Adventures is your one-stop shop for adventure. As the only full service, on-location booking service in Radium Hot Springs, BC, we know all the hidden places to explore. Contact our guest service professionals today to book your next activity and to secure the best rates!

Exploring Whiffen Spit

“I participated in True Key Resort’s #Canada150 contest in 2017. What a great challenge True Key set…to collect photos of activities in each of the destination areas of their resorts! It was intriguing and so much fun to participate. My husband and I visited familiar locations and we discovered so many new (to us) activities and ‘hidden gem’ destinations and events. I entered many photos and to my delight, I WON the contest!!  The fabulous reward is that during 2018 my husband and I will be staying and playing in five True Key properties in British Columbia: Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort in Parksville, Bighorn Meadows Resort in Radium Hot Springs, Harrison Beach Hotel in Harrison Hot Springs, Moutcha Bay Resort in Nootka Sound and Sooke Harbour Resort & Marina in Sooke. In fact, in March 2018, we initiated the adventures by staying in Sooke Harbour Resort.

Sooke Harbour View

Sooke Harbour Resort is an ideally situated home base whether folks are longing to ‘kick back and relax’ or are seeking adventure through fishing, boating, watersports, hiking, biking, and/or tours and expeditions. During our recent vacation, my husband and I felt welcomed by the staff and were delighted with all aspects of the accommodation. We felt both ‘at home’ and pampered in the well-appointed and spacious suite and appreciated the warm and inviting fireplace, the decks and patios with their amazing ocean views, the well-equipped kitchen and the comfy bedroom suite. Our walks, hikes, explorations and wildlife sightings in Sooke and the surrounding area were enhanced by the rainy mists that were part of the early Spring atmosphere. Since we could not experience everything that the region has to offer during our short stay, we plan to make a return visit!” – Connie S.

Here are Connie’s husbands favorite’s from their Sooke trip:

  • Very cool being a tourist in (or near) your own town – packing for a couple nights away is easy because you know if you’ve forgotten anything you can just make the short drive back home to get it
  • But at the same time, you’re away from home and all the usual chores that you feel compelled to do (laundry, cleaning, yard work)
  • Sooke Harbour Resort is right on the water with the attendant beautiful views and incredible sunsets
  • Very well-appointed accommodations – you’ll want to take the fireplace and granite countertops home with you (but probably not a good idea)
  • Take a fascinating discovery tour to locate the Chinese food take-out
  • Beach comb along Whiffin Spit – one side of the spit on the way out and the other on the way back – you never know what you’re going to find, sometimes money (hey, 35 cents is 35 cents)
  • Supper at Mom’s Diner – check out the pies – you’re on vacation – you’re allowed to skip the main course.
